Lladró is a company that produces porcelain figurines. It was founded by three Spanish brothers who started making vases and jugs in Tavernes Blanques, a municipality in the Valencian Community of Spain. Their initial small workshop has expanded several times due to the popularity of the sculptures for which the company is now famous. Last year, the company emerged into the lighting market with Belle De Nuit, a collection of chandeliers, lamps, and sconces. It also released the first piece in the new Dazzle collection that features geometric black designs.
Lladró pieces are made from an original blend of hard-paste porcelain, which gives their figurines their unique characteristics. The company also adds glaze ingredients to the porcelain, which adds to the gleam of the figurines. Their processing makes them one of the most universally recognized Spanish brands associated with culture and luxury.
Lladró currently has 1,000 employees spread throughout the world’s major cities, including New York, Moscow, Beverly Hills, London, Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Delhi, Mumbai, Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.
All Lladró pieces are handmade in Valencia, also known as The City of Porcelain. From the initial artistic sketches to the hand painting to the final firing at high temperatures, each step is meticulously carried out by Lladró’s artists and artisans.
Tulsa will have an opportunity next weekend to watch a demonstration by Lladró artist Amparo Martinez when he visits Nielsen’s Gifts on May 2. Martinez will be promoting Lladró’s new spring collection nationwide and demonstrating how the unique pieces are painted. Andrea Nielsen, the owner of Nielsen’s Gifts, is thrilled to welcome the artist, whose demonstration will be held at the shop from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at 8138-A Lewis Ave.
