Keeping Your Bedroom Warm this Winter

Keeping Your Bedroom Warm this Winter

When the snow begins falling and the chilly wind starts blowing, all you want to do is seek cozy comfort. During the daytime and evening hours, you can keep a fire going in the fireplace or turn up the heat. But, once the sun goes down, even if you have a good heater, it can be more difficult to battle the cold temperatures.

To keep your bedroom warm so you sleep well at night, here are a few tips:

  • Add carpet or rugs to your floor. This will protect your feet from stepping on cold floors in the middle of the night or when you wake up in the morning. A thick carpet can also insulate your floor better, especially if it has a wool base.
  • Install full drapes. Keep out window drafts by covering them with thick, full drapes. If your drapes are not thick enough, you can add another layer of curtains to your window to double up on insulation.
  • Insulate if possible. If it is still possible for you to insulate the floor, walls or ceiling of your bedroom, do so. Insulation can keep the room warm by trapping in the warmth from your heater and preventing the cold air from coming in. There are many insulation options these days, and it also makes your house more energy efficient.
  • Choose furniture conducive to warmth. Tables, bed frames, and chairs made of natural wood can give you a sense of warmth even on cold nights. Top your chairs with extra cushions and pillows for added comfort and insulation for your body heat.
  • Add more pillows to your bed. This is great not just for your head, but also for hugging when you sleep. More layers of pillows can help keep your body heat contained under the covers, which will make you feel warmer.
  • Cozy up with more layers of blankets. This is one of the easiest things you can do, and it also enables you to adjust your comfort levels throughout the night if you get to hot or too cold.
  • Use heated electric blankets. You can plug them add them to your bed and plug a long cord into the wall, which heats the blanket and keeps you warm all night. Most of them have adjustable temperature gauges.

Choose a good mattress. A good mattress, regardless of weather, is more conducive to quality sleep. A thicker mattress can add to your warmth by retaining your body heat, and you can even add additional mattress pads during the winter.
