How to Make Your Mattress Last Longer

Mattress.

As they say, “There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed.” Whether you’ve had a hard day of work, or you’ve been on vacation, sleeping in your own bed offers a comfort unlike any other.

Unfortunately, however, not all mattresses are in a condition that could provide ultimate comfort. Depending on the quality, some may only last a few years. Because mattresses are an expensive investment, it’s important to properly maintain yours, so you can maximize its life span to serve you for years to come.

How do you extend the life of your mattress? Here are a few tips:

  • Cover it with a mattress protector. The extra layer will help protect your mattress from stains, spills, and other damage-causing materials. Mattress protectors are also washable, so it can help you keep your mattress clean in a very easy way.
  • Rotate your mattress regularly. Technically, your mattress needs to be rotated every three months, depending on your manufacturer’s advice. It can help maintain the function of your mattress by rotating the impact of your body weight on the mattress. By evenly distributing wear and tear over time, the mattress with avoid becoming unevenly lumpy in only certain areas.
  • Avoid jumping on your mattress. It is not a trampoline. Your mattress is designed for lying down, and jumping will damage the springs and padding inside.
  • Clean your mattress. Dust and other elements will settle into your mattress over time. If you have allergies, this can actually impact your daily health. Vacuum your mattress regularly, at least once a month.
  • Make sure your bed frame fits. Your mattress needs to have good support and fitting it into the right sized bed frame is key. Make sure your bed frame is sturdy and in good shape, so it will properly support your mattress.
  • Wash your linens regularly. Change your bed linens often, preferably once a week. Not only will this prevent dirt from absorbing into your mattress, but nothing feels better than clean sheets!

Always follow instructions. All mattresses come with manufacturer’s instructions. Because each type of mattress is different, pay attention to what they say for cleaning and maintenance instructions.
