Tulsa City Officials Prepare for Winter

Tulsa City Officials Prepare for Winter

Winter weather can bring with it a beautiful blanket of snow and wintry games. But, it can also bring too much ice, which can be dangerous, especially on roads.

In order to prevent accidents caused by slippery streets, the City of Tulsa is already implementing certain road preparations. City officials are making these early this year to avoid being caught off guard by unexpected winter weather conditions.

According to Tim McCorkell, Tulsa Street Maintenance Manager, the city is always monitoring weather patterns in order to anticipate when winter weather will hit Tulsa. They are already looking for possible weather fronts coming from Canada and Alaska.

Preparations for the winter include the treatment of roads, which involves paving and covering them to prevent vehicles from sliding. Officials are already looking at the Brady District as well as New Tulsa in Wagoner County. About 1,800 lane miles will be covered.

There will be 12,000 tons of salt in storage with around 4,000 tons carried over from last year. City officials will have 170 people working on the winter preparation with 64 trucks with spreaders, 46 snow plows, and 7 4-wheel drive plow vehicles.
