Six Home Organization Tips for Busy Families

Keeping everything on schedule and organized can be tricky when you have a family. Everyone has obligations, activities, and last-minute issues to address, and when both parents work, there is even less time to deal with things.

There is no reason, however, that you shouldn’t be able to enjoy a house that is clean and properly organized. With busy lives, everyone deserves to have a home where they can relax and unwind

So, to help you stay on top of everything, here are a few tips to help you organize your home:

  • Create a cleaning routine and schedule for your family. Yes, this involves everyone in the family, not just you. Make everyone join in the cleaning, so it will be faster and easier for all. Even young children can do some of the easier chores, and it will help them develop good habits of cleanliness. A routine and schedule will help you stay on top of everything. Designate each day of the week for different chores, so everything gets done in a manageable way.
  • Have a catch-all storage basket for every room. A catch-all basket is where you can throw everything that has piled up during the day. At the end of the day, sort through the basket and put everything in its proper place. This will only take a few minutes and makes cleanup so much easier.
  • Make a weekly meal plan. This will help you organize your cooking time and grocery time. It allows you to avoid having to make multiple trips to the grocery store for every meal. It also allows you to avoid wasting time in your kitchen looking through your refrigerator to try to find ingredients to come up with a meal. You will already have everything you need to be able to start cooking right away.
  • Have a place for everything. Be more organized by creating a place for everything. It helps make cleaning go faster. For instance, keep a small folder for all of your recipes, so they aren’t scattered all over place, and you’ll know exactly where to find them when you need them. Have a toy box for all of your kids’ toys, so it’s fast and easy to find them and put them away.
  • Label things. Label your kitchen ingredients as well as your paper files. Labels help you keep track of which items are where, so you don’t have to waste time searching for them. It also enables you to avoid hanging onto things you don’t need. If they don’t fall under any of your essential categories, you probably don’t need them.
  • Have extra containers on hand. You never know when you may have leftovers to store or spare items like light bulbs and batteries. Having more containers on hand will make it easier to organize everything from the start.
