Tulsa Celebrates American Film Festival
The Tulsa American Film Festival is a special celebration of independent and short films. The goal of the festival is to create awareness among the public of different films with ties to Oklahoma, including Native American films, classic Oklahoma-centric films, and short films done by Oklahoma-based filmmakers and students.
TAFFest will be showing films every day from Thursday to Sunday this week at different locations and times. On Thursday, Circle Cinema will begin showing films at 6pm, and features will include Lightning in the Hand, Lone Man’s Land, and Unbranded. From 7pm to 12am, there will be an opening night filmmaker party at Hoot Owl Coffee sponsored by the Oklahoma Film + Music Office.
Friday night’s films will include Calls to Okies: The Park Grubbs Story, Metcalf South Memories, Crouching Lion, Hidden Treasure, and June, Adrift at Circle Cinema. Starting at 8:pm, a TAFFest After Party will again take place at Hoot Owl Coffee, sponsored by Tulsa’s Young Professionals.
On Saturday, Circle Cinema will be playing several films, including Actresses and Fools. At 2pm, there will be a TAFFest Panel for Documentary Filmmaking in Tulsa. It will be free admission to all. On the same day, the Woody Guthrie Center will feature Bound for Glory at 6:45pm.
Sunday’s TAFFest film showings will be held at Gilcrease Museum, featuring Crying Earth Rise Up, Contemporary Native American Short Films, Osiyo: Voices of the Cherokee People, State Fair, and The Verdigris: In Search of Will Rogers. After the film showing, the 2015 TAFFest Awards will take place at Circle Cinema at 7pm.
Tickets are free for all TU students, and there will be paid admission at certain venues for certain films.
