De-cluttering Your Home the Easy Way
Everybody wants to have a clean and organized home. But, very few people have the patience to clean and truly de-clutter their homes in the midst of their daily lives. For working people, by the time they come home, they’re usually tired, and it may not be a part of their daily routine to clean up at home after a hard day at work.
However, there is hope! De-cluttering can be achieved, and here are a few tips to help you de-clutter your home the easy way:
- Do it by sections. Do not try to tackle your de-cluttering project as a whole. That becomes overwhelming and frequently leads to avoidance. Divide your house into sections and create small goals. For instance, you can start de-cluttering your living room first. Then, do your bedroom.
- Have a plan. Do you know where to put things after you pick them up? Before you start sorting through things, be sure you’ve identified where you want to store and organize them. Many things are obvious, such as clothes in closets and dressers. Others, however, like suitcases and holiday decor, require strategy. Map out your plan first; otherwise, you’re just shifting things around with no real purpose.
- Use bins and baskets. Proper storage is important to clear things out. Storage bins are a great way to organize like items and store them together. It makes it easier to find things and keeps things neatly and cleanly stored, so you don’t wind up with messy piles.
- Use multi-functional furniture. If space is an issue inside the house, you can make use of furniture that also functions as storage. For instance, your living room can include a storage ottoman to store extra throw pillows or magazines.
- Know what to get rid of. When de-cluttering, it helps to already have in mind some of the things you can get rid of. Have some garbage bags on hand, as well as boxes for anything you would like to donate or deliver to second-hand stores.
Ask other members of your household to help. It’s much more efficient if there are multiple hands working at once. Assign each person a room, so at the end of the day, more gets accomplished.
