8 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Good

A beautiful home pleases the eyes, but a nice-smelling home pleases all your senses. People naturally want to spend more time in an environment that smells good – it makes you feel more relaxed and at ease. It offers a homey feeling.

But, how do you make your home smell good? Here are a few tips:

  • Throw away your garbage. Take the time to regularly throw your garbage away in your outside dumpsters, especially if you’ve recently dealt with something smelly. Don’t wait for your garbage can to be full to the brim. Take it out on a regular schedule, so things don’t sit for too long.
  • Deodorize your furniture. The stinking smell may not always come from the trash. It can come from overused and dirty couches, bed mattresses, and cushions, too. Use a deodorizer to eliminate the old smells and bring freshness to your furniture.
  • Add some potted plants. Did you know that plants naturally suck in carbon dioxide and emit fresh oxygen back into the air? Having plants at home freshens an atmosphere on an ongoing basis. Place potted plants inside your living room, kitchen, dining room, and even bathroom.
  • Use air fresheners. They are very helpful for refreshing the air, especially if something smelly was recently present. Have multiple air fresheners dispersed throughout the house in designated areas, so you have easy access to them, wherever you are.
  • Place scented candles in your rooms. Scented candles create a pleasant scent and allow you to control the mood of your house based on the scent you choose.
  • Open the windows and doors. Let the sun and fresh air in. Open windows that are facing your garden, as air is fresher in those areas. Keep your windows and doors open as frequently as possible when the weather is pleasant outside.
  • Create your own natural deodorizers. Lavender, vanilla, and citrus fruits can instantly make a room smell good.
  • Refresh your carpets. Like your furniture, your carpet and rugs need regular deodorizing. Find a good carpet deodorizer and one every few weeks. Vacuum regularly, at least once a week.
