Streetscaping and Connections Planned for Downtown Tulsa
There are a number of hidden gems in Tulsa that many people don’t know about simply because they are not easily accessible or visible to the public. John Hope Franklin Park, for example, offers a peaceful, scenic ambiance amidst the busy streets, but many people do not know it’s there. Soon, however, the park will be more noticeable, as plans for streetscaping and street connections are underway.
Streets in the Brady Arts and Greenwood Districts will soon be undergoing enhancement to make it easier and more enjoyable for pedestrians to roam around the downtown area. Restaurants and attractions will be connected, no matter how spread out they are, by the consistency of streetscaping and lighting along the avenues.
The new plan hopes to direct more people to John Hope Franklin Park and the Greenwood District. The park will serve as a connecting place between the Greenwood and Brady Arts Districts, thus creating more continuity in the downtown area. There will be a number of streetlights installed for safety and better visibility, as well as more trees for natural beautification. Brand new crosswalks will also be constructed.
Construction will start in January 2016 and last through April. Similar improvement plans are also in the works for Brady and along Cheyenne. The plans will be paid for by portions of property and sales taxes in the Brady District.
