Tulsa Health Department Conducting Inspections and Trainings for Tulsa State Fair Food Handlers and Vendors
It’s October, and that means it’s time for the fair! The Tulsa State Fair is something that people look forward to every year. From the variety of unique concession stand food to the competitions to the people watching to the thrills of games and rides, there’s literally something for everyone.
The fair is full of fun, but behind the scenes, there is a lot of work involved to prepare for the event, including implementing food handling regulations to ensure everyone’s safety. The Tulsa Health Department will be working closely with the fair to ensure guidelines are being followed throughout the entirety of the event. There will be constant inspections of the food booths to see if food handlers are properly handling and storing food according to State food regulations.
Staff of the Tulsa Health Department will be roaming around more than 250 individual food booths at the fair. There will be 570 man hours worked to perform 750 food inspections during the fair. Aside from inspecting each booth, they will also conduct trainings and offer tips on food safety.
The Tulsa Health Department will also be promoting its Regional Prevention Coordinator program, where a Responsible Beverage Service and Sales Training will be offered for free. The program will provide training on how to serve and sell alcohol to the public and how to deal with people who are underage or intoxicated.
