Sweeping Like a Pro: How to Properly Sweep Your Home

Sweeping Like a Pro How to Properly Sweep Your Home

Keeping your house clean is important, and one of the easiest ways you can do that is by sweeping the floor. No matter how easy sweeping the floor may sound, however, many people don’t do it correctly. Have you ever swept your floors, but they still didn’t look as clean as you thought they should?

Here are a few tips to help you sweet your floors in the most effective way:

  • Choose the right kind of broom. This will help you maximize your sweeping time. If you have tile or wood flooring, choose a synthetic broom. If you have rough floors, choose a fiber broom.
  • Consider ease of use when buying a broom. Is it at a comfortable height for you? Does it grip properly and not slip easily? If you use a more ergonomic broom, then you will be able to work with more ease.
  • Clear the room first before you sweep. Organize and move your things before you sweep, so you truly get all of the dirt out from around your tables and chairs. If you don’t move things beforehand, you won’t be able to catch a lot of direct collected around the legs of your furniture, and it will be more likely to spread around after you’ve cleaned.
  • Always sweep in one direction. Do this to trap the dirt effectively and consistently. If you’re sweeping in multiple directions, dirt will be more likely to get trapped in crevices and move around.
  • Start cleaning from the upper rooms downwards. Sweep the floors on the upper levels of your home first, so dirt that falls will be swept when you clean the bottom floor. If you do it in the opposite way, you will end up having to re-sweep areas on your first floor.
  • When sweeping, create several sections where you can pile your dirt. Do not just sweep all your dirt until you get to the last part of the house. It will leave traces of dirt behind because there will be more than the broom can transport.. Instead, create small sections where you can collect the dirt in multiple piles and then vacuum or sweep it up for good.
  • Hang the broom after using it. Do not just lay it on the floor. Hanging the broom will keep it its bristles straight and unbent and will also prevent it from collecting dust from the floor when it’s not in use.
  • Store your broom properly. Do not just put it somewhere humid and damp. Make sure your broom is not wet as it can easily gets damaged and even smell. Keep it in a dry and clean place.
