City of Tulsa Plans Permanent Drop-off Site for Household Pollutants
Every day, we handle household toxins that can be risky and unsafe for our health. They range from household cleaners and chemicals to motor oil and other hazardous materials. Although they are indeed useful for cleaning and maintenance, disposing of them can be tricky.
Proper waste disposal is crucial to ensure that no one is harmed by toxic pollutants. If hazardous waste is not disposed of properly, it can contaminate the soil, people’s bodies, and lead to infections and other damage.
Because of this, the City of Tulsa is currently looking for a site to set up a permanent household pollution drop off facility. The site will be open all year round, so people can easily drop off their hazardous waste materials to ensure they are disposed of properly and safely.
Currently, the fairgrounds offer a household pollutant drop-off event twice each year. However, it is not enough to accommodate the daily need people have to dispose of their household waste. So, the local government is thinking of converting an old warehouse space into a permanent drop off site.
The proposed site is owned by the city and has an existing building. It will be indoors, so people can drop off their waste any time of year, rain or shine. The new site will cost around $175,000 to operate for 104 days a year, two days a week.
