What to Do During a Plumbing Emergency

During home emergencies, it is important to stay calm and focused, so you can take the necessary measures to minimize the damage. For plumbing issues, here are a few tips for what to do in an emergency:
- Turn off the water – Find the main water valve and turn it off. This will reduce water waste and stop water from flowing out of your pipes.
- Turn off the electricity – Turn off any running electricity within the area where there is a plumbing emergency. Water and electricity do not mix well and can lead to electrocution and major physical injuries.
- Call your plumber – Have an expert come out immediately, so they can address the issue before it gets worse. Do not wait for the water to subside or to “wait and see” before you call them. Plumbing issues do not resolve themselves or get better with time, so you want to get them fixed as quickly as possible to avoid further problems.
