Tulsa Weather Coalition Gives Air Conditioning to People in Need
Summer heat in Oklahoma can be excruciating, and a lot of people end up suffering from heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses as a result. Aside from more extreme cases, there is also just the general discomfort of dealing with such extreme heat throughout the day. Air conditioning is the easiest way to combat the heat, but unfortunately, not all households have air conditioning or the finances to keep one running all summer.
Fortunately, there are organizations that are dedicated to helping people stay cool. The Tulsa Weather Coalition is helping people in the city who are in need of a working air conditioner by offering AC units to low-income residents and those with certain disabilities.
The Tulsa Weather Coalition makes it an annual goal to help people who have serious medical conditions be more comfortable in their homes during the summertime. Medical conditions such as congestive heart failure and emphysema get worse on hot days, and with AC units, patients are less prone to suffering.
Families who are qualified to receive help can apply through the city’s help line, 211. They will need to submit a letter from their doctor bearing the details of their illnesses or information detailing their financial circumstances. Other required documents include a complete application and a signed lease agreement to return the unit.
