How to Tell If You Need to Replace Your Roof or Not
The roof of your house protects you from the elements. However, because it is constantly subjected to harsher conditions, it is important to remember to check it from time to time to be sure it is remaining in good condition. Though we often do not consider the condition of our roof, ignoring its wear and tear can lead to large – and expensive – problems.
So, how do you know if it’s time to repair and/or replace your roof?
– Check the papers. Typically, a roof may last for 20 to 25 years depending on the materials you used. Based on when you installed your roof, you can get a general idea of how much life it is expected to have.
– See if there are leaks inside your house. Go up to the attic and see if there are any leaks coming from your roof. One way to check is to look for light beams passing through your roof. This means that the seal of the roof is not solid. Also look for pools of sitting water.
– Look for missing shingles. Do you see gaps or bald spots on your roof? Not only does it look unattractive, but it is also an indication that your roofing is in need of repair.
– Check for shingle granules in your gutters. When you clean your gutters, check to see if there are any pieces of shingles inside them. This is usually a sign that your roof is gradually deteriorating and falling apart.
