Tulsa City Employees Banned from Using Electronics While Driving
Distracted driving is one of the major causes of road accidents in the world. When drivers are doing other things in their cars while driving, such as texting, applying makeup, or looking for things, they can no longer concentrate on the road, which increases their risk of getting into a car accident. The biggest source of distraction for most drivers is the use of electronic devices while driving.
Though hands-free devices have been touted as a solution for distracted driving, researchers believe that they can still create mental distraction. That is one reason why the City of Tulsa is implementing a law that will prohibit employees from using electronic devices while driving. Not only phones and other handheld devices are banned, but hands-free devices as well.
According to city officials, the ban will be a solution for public road safety, and city employees will be a part of leading by example to encourage the rest of the community to do the same. The law will make it illegal to call, text, or use a phone in any way while driving.
