Experience Shaping Sound at Tulsa’s Performing Arts Center
From art to nightlife, Tulsa has no shortage of exciting things to do. As the state’s cultural Mecca, it never fails to thrill, entertain, or surprise. On January 29th Shaping Sound, a 14-member dance troupe currently in the midst of its second national tour, takes center stage at the Chapman Music Hall inTulsa’s Performing Arts Center.
Four Emmy Award-nominated choreographers Travis Wall, Kyle Robinson, Teddy Forance and Nick Lazzarini have pieced together a simply amazing production. Shaping Sound company members have toured international with an impressive group ofthe world’s top recording artists and award-winning dance companies. Applauded by the commercial dance world and greatly popular with audiences of all ages, the company members have been showcased on all of America’s popular primetime dance, entertainment and music shows including: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, Glee, American Idol and The Voice. They also starred in their own reality TV show on Oxygen named “All the Right Moves”.
Shaping Sound’s performances are electrifying and full of life, giving both shape and form to sound. Their movement styles give its audiences access to, and a greater understanding of contemporary dance through a unique fusion of jazz, modern and hip-hop choreography. Their ensemble is composed of a dynamic mix of energy and emotion; providing tremendous musicality of movement to each performance.
The company was established in Los Angeles in 2012 with a focus on contemporary dance and choreographic artistry. “When I relocated to Los Angeles, I started looking for places where we could put on shows, where the four of us could dance together and really put our work out there for people to see who we were and what we could do,” Travis Wall said. “We learned pretty quickly that if we wanted to do something like that,” he said, laughing, “we’d have to create our own company to make it happen.”
