The 6th Annual Tulsa March For Life
Pro-life advocates will again take to the streets in participation of the annual Tulsa March For Life to spread their message that abortion is never the answer to unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.
This year’s March For Life will be held Thursday, January 22th and will begin with a Mass conducted by Bishop Edward J. Slattery at Holy Family Cathedral, beginning at 5:30 PM. The March itself will start at 6:30 PM from 8th Street and Boulder Avenue in downtown Tulsa, proceeding to Centennial Green. Once at the Green, Rebecca Hamilton, a veteran pro-life legislative leader will give a speech.
The event is organized by a variety of Christian churches in Tulsa and will be attended by pro-life citizens of all faiths. According to the Tulsa March for Life website, the event originated in 2009 “by a cross-denominational group of people passionate about proclaiming the sanctity of human life.” The date of the event is scheduled annually for January 22th in Downtown Tulsa, the anniversary of the United States Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion decision legalizing abortion in all states.
This year’s March For Life will mark the 41st Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. It is neither a protest nor denouncement what pro-life citizens stand against, but it is a public witness of what pro-life citizens support; the right to life.
During last year’s 5th Annual Tulsa March for Life, hundreds of Tulsans braved the nearly freezing temperatures to attend the march. Bishop Edward J. Slattery addressed the crowd at the beginning of the Tulsa march and said, “Tonight we march so that no one forgets the injustice imposed on our country 41 years ago today. We march so that no one forgets that we lost 57 million children to the abortion industry. One quarter of the population in the last 41 years is gone. Our society has forgotten that the first right of a human person is life”.
