Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, there exists an extraordinary world: A kingdom known as “Varekai.”

Varekai, which means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies, is the hottest current touring production of Cirque du Soleil. The world renowned stage artists will swing into Tulsa and Oklahoma City for a spectacular seven performances in each city. The play will be featured at Tulsa’s BOK Center running from January 21th through the 25th. During these five days of fantasy, the BOK will be transformed into a mystical jungle for Cirque du Soleil’s latest tour.

From a group comprised of only 20 street performers at its beginnings in the 1980s, Cirque du Soleil is now a major Quebec-based organization which provides high-quality artistic entertainment. Cirque du Soleil is known for their high-flying, exciting acrobatics, colourful costumes and sets and engaging story telling throughout.

Now in its thirties, Cirque du Soleil offers Varekai as one of the many sensory phenomena currently touring the world. Their production of Varekai pays tribute to the nomadic soul and the spirit and art of the circus tradition. The production opened in Montreal in 2002 and has since travelled to more than 72 cities and 20 countries.

“The people will be transported. People tell us all the time that they didn’t feel like they were in the city where they were at, it’s like another realm. That’s the beauty of Cirque du Soleil, it’s like a dream,” Isabelle Danserau-Corradi, the singer who plays the role of the Muse said.

The story begins when the sky lets go a solitary young man, parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest to discover a new world full of fantastical creatures.
