Concrete Floor Staining and its Benefits
One of the popular ways to increase the beauty and uniqueness of a home is through concrete staining. Through this process, you can replicate the look of natural stone, create a one-of-a-kind faux finish or even marble effect in a variety of colors and style combinations with endless design ideas.
Concrete staining can be applied on stamped concrete, new or old concrete in a plethora of color options. It can also be used with integral colors, colored release agents, dry shake color hardeners and clear liquid release. You might be wondering about the longevity of concrete floor stains. Concrete staining utilizes a chemical reaction with the concrete that melds it together, creating a tight and unbreakable bond that lasts for years.
There are two types of structural material manufacturers of concrete stain which include the following:
- Solomon colors: This type of concrete staining has the unique characteristics of imitating a transparent marbling look.
- Scofield Systems: Scofield Systems are well known for their Lithochrome Chemstain Classic which is perfect for natural stone shading and faux finishes.
Concrete floor staining is applied by spraying or brushing the mixture on small areas. Always remember that staining on new concrete will require thirty days for the concrete to cure. For existing concrete, it will take much less time than that. Another reminder when applying stain to existing concrete is to remove sealers, oil, paint and any curing compounds first before staining. You should test the concrete by wetting it first and if the water beads up, then it needs more time for preparation work. If no water beading is present, then it is a great time to start the concrete staining process.
