Signs That Your Asphalt Roof Needs Replacement
One of the most widely used roofing materials in the nation are asphalt shingles. This is a common choice because of its durable and inexpensive qualities, as well as longevity of life. But, as with all home materials, maintenance and/or replacement may be required from time to time. How do you know that replacing your roof is the right decision?
1. Start with scheduled inspections. Roof inspections should be conducted at least two times a year. While it is a common mistake to forget roof inspections, don’t fall into this trap, since this may create future problems. It is only rational to commit to these scheduled inspections, since this will save time, money and effort. The inspections should start from the exterior and work inward. Check if there are signs of damages, missing shingles, buckling shingles, blistering shingles, curling shingles and even rot and algae growth.
A visual inspection is vitally important for shingles, since you will need to find any tears, cracks or defects. Also, ensure that you are checking for any loose shingles or roofing material that might have become displaced and lodged in places such as gutters or downspouts.
2. Check for replacement signals. There are several signs that are moderately obvious when it comes to determining if your asphalt roof already needs replacement. These signs include: water leakage or water damage, water trails which are presented by dark spots, sunlight glows showing through the roof, and sagging areas on the roof.
Performing a bend test on the selected scattered shingles is a must. A good quality shingle should tab backwards on itself when bent, while older and low quality shingles tend to go back slowly.
