The Tulsa State Fair
Eleven days of awesome are about to commence as the Tulsa State Fair comes to town! The Tulsa State Fair is one of the city’s most anticipated events of the year, offering something for the whole family. The fair opens on Thursday, September 25th and lasts through Sunday, October 5th.
The Tulsa State Fair features many attractions, ranging from rides and games to food vendors and agricultural competitions. The recently renovated River Spirit Expo is the largest facility on the fairgrounds. Inside, exhibits and vendors will be lining the walls, offering everything from arts & crafts and home care items to options for banking and insurance.
The Tulsa State Fair developed around family values, heritage, and quality entertainment for all ages and has been happening annually for over 100 years, making it one of the premier fairs in the country. The event was first organized in 1903 and was originally called the Tulsa County Free Fair. In 1913, it began to allowed agriculturalists from all over the world to gather and compete, which is what gave rise to the establishment of the Dry Farming Congress in Tulsa. In 1915, the Oklahoma Free Fair Act was passed, granting a 15-acre section of land north of Archer Street and Lewis Avenue to be used for the Tulsa State Fair. In 1923, the Fair was moved to a 240 acre lot, which was donated by Tulsa oilman J.E. Crosbie.
In 2013, the State Fair attracted 1,100,000 visitors, the largest crowd in its history.
