Reducing Energy Consumption and Energy Bills with Home Insulation

Reducing Energy Consumption and Energy Bills with Home InsulationInsulation is one of the most basic ways to improve your home because it increases energy efficiency and helps you save money on electricity bills. It makes the house more comfortable because it keeps it cooler during the summer and warmer during the winter, so your heat and air units don’t have to run as frequently. In addition, insulation prevents damage from leaking water.

There are three main types of home insulation processes: loft, cavity wall, and draught proofing. Insulating your loft can do a lot in the way of improving energy efficiency because that is where 25% of your heat escapes your home. Loft insulation materials should be between 270mm to 300mm. They should be laid down in the attic area between and over any visible joints. You can do it yourself, but it is more advisable to let professional install this type of insulation to be sure it is done properly and to avoid any potential technical difficulties.

Cavity wall insulation is for use within the external walls of your house. The gaps within your external walls account for as much as 33% of heat loss in homes. Small holes are made in the external walls to inject insulation materials.  The process only takes two to three hours to finish and leaves little or no mess in your house. Cavity wall insulation creates a more even temperature inside your home. Just like loft insulation, this should also be done by professional contractors to ensure 100% effectiveness.

Draught proofing addresses small gaps and tiny cracks in doors and windows that can otherwise allow up to 20% of your heat to escape from the house. This insulation process also targets keyholes and gaps around floorboards.

It is strongly recommended to leave the process of insulation installation to professionals. Proper care must be observed during the process because insulation can cause skin allergies and respiratory problems. Before installation, you should check for air and water leaks because moisture can dampen the efficiency of insulation.
